The LinkedIn limits that actually matter

Everyone quotes the same LinkedIn limits and most are wrong. What we send, what we watch, and what we do when an account gets a warning.

The LinkedIn limits that actually matter

Ask ten outbound tools what LinkedIn's limit is and you get ten answers. The honest one is that there is no single number: the ceiling moves with the age of the account, how complete the profile is, how many of your invites get accepted, and whether anyone marks you as spam.

What we can say is what holds up in practice.

What we send

A new account starts low and climbs. Roughly:

WeekInvites a dayWhy
115–20The account has no history of sending anything
225–30Acceptances start to establish a pattern
3 onward30–40Steady, as long as acceptance holds up

Invitations a day by week: 15 to 20 in week one, 25 to 30 in week two, 30 to 40 from week three

The monthly ceiling matters more than the daily one. LinkedIn caps invitations at around 800 a month for most accounts, and that is the number that decides how much outbound one sender can actually carry.

What we watch

Three numbers tell you whether an account is healthy, and none of them is "messages sent":

  • Acceptance rate. Under 20% and you are messaging people who do not recognise why you are there. That is a targeting problem, not a volume one.
  • Withdrawn invitations. Pending invites pile up against your ceiling. We withdraw anything older than two weeks.
  • Reply sentiment. One "who are you?" is noise. Several in a week means the opening line is wrong.

What we do when an account gets a warning

Stop sending that day. Not "reduce" — stop. Then look at acceptance over the prior week, because a warning almost always follows a run of invites to people who had no reason to accept. Resume at half the previous volume for a week.

Why this is a targeting argument

Every limit above is a reason to be careful about who you send to. If a sender can only carry 800 invitations a month, the difference between a list and a set of warm signals is not a nice-to-have — it is the whole return on that account.
